For many years the ICS has offered an annual $200 Prize to students taking the final year Surveying 457 - Cadastral Surveying 3 paper at the University of Otago School of Surveying.From 2018,

the Institute of Cadastral Surveying Prize became the Institute of Cadastral Surveying Chris Hoogsteden Memorial Prize, in memory of Associate Professor (Dr.) Chris Hoogsteden (1946-2014).

This memorial recognises his membership of the ICS and particularly his contributions to cadastral surveying courses as well as his support of students throughout his tenure at the University of

Otago School of Surveying from 1983. The inclusion of Chris’s name within the ICS Prize has been endorsed by his family.

The prize now consists of a $300.00 cash payment, plus a package including ICS Membership and the Cadastral Index Tool/Application (valued at over $1750).
